Wild Elephant Valley & Man Jing Lan Dai village – Xishuangbanna

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is located 36 kilometres north of Jinghong City in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. It is particularly rich in natural resources, bringing together tropical rain forests, southern subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests, and rare flora and fauna. China’s Asian wild elephants mainly live in the Mengyang Nature Reserve of Xishuangbanna. The Wild Elephant Valley Scenic Area, located at the junction of the east and west areas of Mengyang Nature Reserve, is the central passage for the exchange and gathering of wild Asian elephants that living in the two areas. It makes Wild Elephant Valley a place frequently visited by wild elephants. And this is also how this valley named.

Man Zhang Dai Village is a typical Dai village. The houses here are typical bamboo buildings that are constructed with “fence”  and the bamboo fences also help dividing households between each other, which forms a self-contained courtyard. Many fruit trees such as coconuts, bananas, and bamboo forests are planted around, all lush and green, presenting a subtropical scenery and exotic atmosphere. There is also a Dai-style food street in Manjinglan Village, where visitors can go to taste local snacks. The hospitable host love to entertain guests with sour, spicy, bitter, sweet, fragrant and crisp Dai-style food; let people understand the daily customs of the Dai people. You can also appreciate and participate in Dai folk song and dance performances, and buy folk crafts such as Dai brocade, wood carvings, bamboo weaving, and pottery with ethnic characteristics.
